Living that SUPERTUNIA life early May through nearly the end of September is very important to my curb appeal, but after keeping plants alive for that long, I need something to carry me October through May- until I can start over! Ferns and live plants are my jam in the summer, but winter months, I need to be a little more hands off.
I have two large front porch containers that fill beautifully throughout the summer with Supertunia, Creeping Jenny, Vinca and the like, but this time of year those plants all start to die out and I just need a break. Enter: the FAKE CABBAGE!
I have been putting the fake cabbage in these planters for a few years now, and I’m never going back. What I love about the fake cabbage is it is very large, so it pretty much covers the top of the entire container. Then I add a few fake creeping jenny/pearl plants spilling out- and TADA! All done! This year, and I’ve never done it before, so it may not even work out…I added some of the dried out limelight that I had left from a party because we had SO MANY. If they start to look bad, I’ll just pluck them out.
*My view from much CLOSER than the sidewalk. I promise they look anything but fake!*
If you have large containers, especially ones that you don’t walk right up on, let me highly suggest these fake plants. OR ones that are on a porch and you don’t want to think about watering. Your curb appeal won’t suffer through the long winter days where everything is BLAH and you’ll be ready when spring rolls around to commit to that watering life!
I saved a bunch of my favorite fake plants HERE! Hope this helps!
